‘Àite Aithrigid’ means ‘a state capable of transforming’.
'Àite Aithrigid’ is a Céile Dé term used to describe an essential state of being, or consciousness, on our journey towards spiritual realisation that we are one with The One.
This retreat offers a place and sacred space to dive deep into the transformative nature of Céile Dé teachings and practices that we have received. This gathering is offered as an optional addition to our annual teaching retreats.
There will be no separation between teaching and living - we will 'live the tradition'.
We will stay together in a homely space, cooking, eating and living together
in the spirit of our tradition.

Retreat Information
An Àite Aithrigid* retreat is an optional gathering which offers the opportunity to 'walk our talk' as we live and work together as Céili Dé for a few days, exploring some of the teachings and practices that we have received at our annual teaching retreats.
This retreat will be a small, intimate gathering of seven people, including an oide (teacher) who will offer teachings during the retreat and hold the space for our intentional sharing of daily life and practice within the Céile Dé tradition. We will stay in a homely space, cooking, eating and living together in the spirit of the tradition.
The programme for the retreat will look something like this:
Our days will revolve around our practice of Rὺn in the morning, afternoon and before bed, with other spiritual practice at midday, such as paidirean or Oran Turais.
Each morning, a focus for the day will be introduced and we will explore how that teaching or practice relates to our own lives and experience within the tradition.
We will incorporate the chores of daily life as part of our spiritual practice. There will be no separation between teaching and living - we will 'live the tradition'.
For example, it is Céile Dé practice to light a candle and speak a prayer or chant a fonn while cooking and preparing food.
At the start of the retreat, we will talk about how we wish to achieve a balance of social time and silence.
There will be times when you can be alone if you wish, to walk by the river or in the nearby woods or during social times you may choose to have a coffee with others and share experiences of what it truly means to 'live the tradition'.
* A note on pronounciation - Àite Aithrigid is pronounced 'Ah-chuh Ath - ree - guj'.
